Fly fishing is one of the most exciting fishing sports in the world. This largemouth fish is probably the most sought after sport fish in the world. This may be due to the wide distribution of this fish in all freshwater bodies which makes this large bass a popular game fish. Largemouth bass attract anglers as far away as southern Canada, South America and places in between. These spots also do a good game in small bass as well as these species don't spread as widely as their largemouth cousins.
In warm waters, the large mouth reaches large sizes. Take the example of the 5-pound bass, which is commonly found in the waters of northern lakes. However, the southern waters of the lakes are known to produce giants such as 10-pound bass or possibly even larger fish. Water temperature is important to fish size in all types of sport fishing.
The season after spawning is the best time to catch bass. Water temperature determines when fish will spawn and large bass have been known to spawn when the temperature is below 6 degrees or as high as 6 degrees. Female bass have been known to lay eggs after mid-June in Minnesota, and the female herself will lay eggs in February if she is in Florida.
As far as largemouth bass feeding habits go, a lot depends on the water temperature at the top of the body of water. In warm weather, bass feed during the day or early in the morning and swim lazily until late in the evening. This is the best time to catch bass when they are hungry. Otherwise, they might just ignore the temptation. These large fish can be found in warm, densely vegetated waters where the fish will find plenty of insects among aquatic plants and even feed on leaves underwater. This is why they always stay where there is a lot of vegetation in the water, which is a favorite place for bass anglers to attract their game.
Bigmouth anglers will use bugs and other insects that can be found where bass are known to feed. A popper is a synthetic lure designed to look like an insect and can jump along the surface of the water as the angler rolls in quick successive strokes.
This tricks the bass into thinking it is a living insect and is going to fetch the lure. Another good lure is the minnow and even the wall worm.
Some anglers have developed the technique of baiting bass with a few tantalizing fly shots over where the bass are resting. This attracts the attention of the bass and makes them go for the bait. It makes the fly fishing game more interesting and exciting.
