Fly Fishing Accessories

Fly fishing is a sport that has emerged over the years and has taken the form of a science and an art. Along with the right equipment, you need to have the proper knowledge if you want to be successful in this sport. You are expected to have the proper attire which includes all necessary gear for your fishing trip. This includes clothes, shoes, a fishing rod, and most importantly, knowledge of its habits with the fish you are catching.

The essential of a fly fisherman's wardrobe is the fly fishing jacket which has lots of pockets which are used for the different gear and tackle the angler needs to catch his trophy fish. The small faux sheepskin pocket worn on the front of the jacket is a good accessory for storing extra flies and hooks. Another good accessory that most anglers like to keep handy is a spring-loaded reel that has a pair of nail clippers attached to its end. This is useful when you need to cut the line and remove or leave the catch.

The fly fishing jacket should also have a large pocket on the back where you can put light rain gear just in case. A small loop on the back of the jacket collar will be handy to keep the net out of the way.

Fly boxes should be chosen wisely. These should be small enough to fit in one of the pockets. Ideally, the fly box should have two to three chambers to hold and handle the various flies. The fly box sections separate wet flies from dry flies. Some small vials are also useful for storing wet flies after fishing.

It is important to keep the spare spool complete with the spool in case the rod spool is damaged. You never know when it's going to happen, and it's better to have a spare on hand than to give up a pristine fishing trip.

If you are planning a fly fishing trip in a very green area like a swamp, you better keep insect repellent as well as rash cream on hand with your kit. Insect bites and allergic rashes are common hunting trips.

Equally important for your fly fishing kit is sunscreen, gloves, a flashlight, a small pocket knife and don't forget the first aid kit. Last but not least is the wading boot. These are usually hip-length leather or rubber boots. Be careful not to go longer than the length of the shoe for obvious reasons.

With the right accessories, you can enjoy the fishing experience of a lifetime.
